Fund invites nonprofits across the Los Angeles region to apply for grants supporting wildfire resilience and nature restoration, ocean protection and cooling solutions 

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 9, 2026) — The LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee today opened the second round of applications for the LA28 Resilience Champions Fund, continuing its investment in nonprofit organizations advancing locally led solutions to strengthen resilience across the Los Angeles region. Nonprofit organizations from across the region are encouraged to apply now through October 30, 2026.   

“Building a more resilient Los Angeles starts with investing in the people and organizations who know their communities best,” said Becky Dale, LA28 Vice President of Sustainability. “With the second round of the Resilience Champions Fund, we’re excited to build on the momentum of our inaugural grantees whose projects are currently underway, and support more locally led solutions that can deliver a meaningful impact that starts before the Games and endures long after 2028.” 

Launched earlier this year, the LA28 Resilience Champions Fund is part of the broader LA28 Resilience Champions Initiative, which is designed to strengthen community resilience leading up to and beyond the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In May, LA28 announced the Fund’s inaugural cohort of eight nonprofit grantees, each receiving $100,000 to implement projects across the Los Angeles region. 

For the inaugural cohort, funding provided by LA28 is already helping bring community-led resilience projects to life.

Round two will continue to support projects aligned with the Fund’s three focus areas: 

• Wildfire Resilience and Nature Restoration: Coming out of the devastating 2025 wildfires, LA28 will help build greater wildfire resilience and restore nature by supporting projects such as planting fire resilient native plants or pursuing vegetation management.
  
  
•  Ocean Protection: With the Pacific Ocean as the iconic backdrop to sports like sailing and beach volleyball, LA28 will enhance ocean health by supporting replicable solutions such as restoring wetlands and coastal habitats. 
  
  
• Cooling Solutions: In the lead-up to welcoming the world in the height of summer, LA28 will help keep Los Angeles cool by supporting projects such as native tree planting or installation of shade structures.

The Fund is administered by Community Partners, a Los-Angeles based nonprofit intermediary organization, with grant recipients selected by LA28 in collaboration with an advisory group of leaders representing the public, academic, nonprofit, and philanthropic sectors. The group helps ensure funding decisions are grounded in community need and local expertise. 

The LA28 Resilience Champions Fund builds on commitments outlined in LA28’s Impact and Sustainability Plan, released in August 2025. The plan establishes a framework for delivering lasting benefits for Los Angeles and beyond, including expanding access to economic opportunity, youth sports, and a healthy environment.
