Para Powerlifting

Para Powerlifting is the ultimate test of power, technique, grit and pure strength, seeing athletes lift a barbell loaded with weight in the bench press. It is one of the fastest growing sports in the Paralympic Movement and is regularly practiced in almost 100 countries. From a laying position on a weight bench, athletes have three attempts to lower the bar to their chest, hold it motionless, then press it upwards to the full extension of their arms with locked elbows. An extra rep of excitement is added when those eligible to break a Paralympic or world record request a fourth attempt, called a power lift! The winner is determined by the competitor who successfully lifts the heaviest weight. Athletes compete in one sport class for those with impairments impacting their lower limbs or hips across 10 bodyweight classes for both men and women. The sport often sees athletes lift three times their body weight, providing an awe-inspiring and jaw-dropping display for spectators.
A powerlifter is performing a bench press during a competition. The athlete is lying on a bench, with his mouth open, wearing a yellow and red singlet and a white undershirt, and gripping a barbell loaded with large red weight plates. The scene is dimly lit, highlighting the intensity and focus on the lifter's face. Two spotters are standing on either side, ensuring the athlete's safety.
