Swimming

Swimming is one of the oldest sports in the Olympic program, contested at every summer Games since 1896. This sport features swimmers racing head-to-head in a 50-meter pool using one of four strokes: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle, or all four (the individual medley). Individually and as teams, swimmers compete in distances ranging from 50m sprints to 1500m endurance tests, all with the primary objective of finishing the fastest. LA28 is introducing 50m races in the butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke, delivering an invigorating new dimension to an already gripping sport.
Three swimmers are competing in a freestyle race, swimming side by side in separate lanes. The swimmer in the center lane is slightly ahead of the others. The water is clear and blue, with splashes around the swimmers as they move. Yellow lane dividers separate the lanes.
