LA28 TICKETING SALES TRENDS
In April, LA28 delivered the most successful initial ticket drop in Olympic history, with fans purchasing more than 4 million tickets. Here are some key buyer trends behind Drop 1.
GLOBAL EXCITEMENT FOR THE GAMES
LA28 tickets reached the hands of residents of all 50 states during Drop 1, and internationally, sales spanned 85 different countries. Canada and Mexico both ranked in the top 5 countries of global sales, emphasizing the North American enthusiasm for the 2028 Games.
LOCAL MOMENTUM
Not only did Drop 1 show unprecedented, global demand for LA28 tickets two years out from the Opening Ceremonies, but it also allowed LA28 to deliver on a commitment to the local host communities with the LA & OKC Locals Presale, where nearly 75% of Drop 1 inventory was secured.
Roughly half a million $28 tickets and 95% of all Drop 1 tickets under $100 sold during the Locals Presale time slots. The top 5 California cities to purchase tickets in Drop 1 were Los Angeles, Irvine, Long Beach, Santa Monica and Pasadena.
STATS BY SPORT
Athletics, Basketball, Football (Soccer), Gymnastics, and Swimming were the most sold sports in Drop 1.
Ticket sales also showcased excitement for LA28's additions to the Olympic program, with Flag Football, Softball, Lacrosse and Squash among the first sports to sell through their allotted Drop 1 inventory. Ahead of the first Games allocating more quota spots to women athletes than men, Drop 1 data also showed that women's tickets outsold men's, 93% to 88%.
