As preparations continue for the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games, LA28 is announcing a new Human Rights Grants Program that will provide individual grants between $50,000 to $100,000 to community organizations working to advance and protect human rights across the Los Angeles region. 

The initiative marks the first-ever human rights grants program established by an Olympic and Paralympic organizing committee and reflects LA28's commitment to turning its Human Rights Strategy into meaningful action. 

"Hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games brings the responsibility to deliver a safe and secure Games for all of our stakeholders," said LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover. "Through this first-of-its-kind Human Rights Grants Program, we're investing in proven organizations to help deliver for the region and beyond, while safeguarding the Games." 

The Human Rights Grants Program will support community-led projects across five priority areas identified in LA28's Human Rights Strategy: 

• Human trafficking 
• Labor rights 
• Accessibility 
• Unhoused communities 
• Civil rights and voice 
   

The Human Rights Grants Program builds upon LA28's Human Rights Strategy, which was developed in consultation with government partners, community organizations, advocacy groups, labor representatives, and people with lived experiences. Through investments in local organizations, the program will support projects that raise awareness, provide education and training, and help prevent potential human rights impacts specifically connected to the Games. 

"Partnership, collaboration, and investment in communities are key to advancing human rights," said LA28 Senior Advisor for Human Rights Ambassador Julieta Valls Noyes. "This program will help empower organizations already making a difference while building a stronger foundation for the Olympic and Paralympic Games that respect the rights and dignity of those they touch—from athletes and fans to workers, volunteers, and local residents." 

LA28 will share additional information, including eligibility guidelines and application details, with the official call for applications in the coming months. Inaugural grant recipients will be announced in 2027.
