Surfing

Officially the state sport of California, Surfing is set to make waves at LA28. In this exhilarating event, athletes ride ocean waves and perform highly-skilled maneuvers on surfboards, receiving scores from judges based on the commitment, variety and difficulty of each ride. Two to three surfers compete in 25-35-minute heats where each surfer’s top two waves count toward their overall score. Athletes showcase balance, agility and their raw ocean awareness, aweing spectators with a thrilling mix of speed, power, flow and gravity-defying aerial moves. A celebration of SoCal's surf culture, LA28 is amped to shine a light on the sport that plays a role in so many Californian's lives, welcoming Olympic-level Surfing to the Pacific Coast of the United States for the first time since it joined the Olympic Games in 2020.
