Cricket
After 128 years, Cricket will make its long-awaited return to the Olympic stage, after its one and only Olympic performance at the Paris Games in 1900. Cricket is a bat-and-ball team sport where two teams of 11 players each take turns batting and bowling. The batting side attempts to score as many runs as possible by hitting the ball and running between two sets of wickets (wooden stumps), while the bowling side attempts to get batters dismissed (out). Cricket is played on a grassy oval with a rectangular 22-yard pitch in the center. At LA28, Cricket will use the T20 format, a fast-paced version of the game where teams face a maximum of 20 overs (an over is a set of six balls) and have the opportunity to score fan-favorite 4s and 6s, when the ball is hit into or over the outer boundary. An exciting, high-scoring and skillful game that celebrates teamwork, Cricket is sure to bring the energy at LA28.
