LA28 VOLUNTEER PROGRAM PRESENTED BY DELTA AIR LINES HOSTS INAUGURAL COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER EVENT WITH HEAL THE BAY IN VENICE BEACH

Beach Cleanup Brings Together LA28 Volunteer Crew to Kick Off Multi-Year Volunteer Initiative

LOS ANGELES [December 5, 2025] — The LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games today kicked off the first official activation of the LA28 Volunteer Program presented by Delta Air Lines, on International Volunteer Day, marking a major milestone toward building a community-driven Games leading up to 2028. Following the success of the program’s launch on November 6, 2025, this event was put on in collaboration with Heal the Bay and activated over 100 local volunteers who came together for a hands-on beach cleanup spanning more than a mile of Venice Beach. The volunteer program highlights the Games’ commitment to expanding access to a healthy environment, creating a positive impact on the community and championing civic pride with local non-profit organizations.

"Today’s beach cleanup is the beginning of a multi-year volunteer initiative in honor of the 2028 Games that will uplift Los Angeles and engage people across our region in meaningful, service-driven moments,” said Reynold Hoover, LA28 Chief Executive Officer. “Heal the Bay is the perfect partner to help us kick off our first event and set the precedent for giving back to our community, as their leadership in environmental action and community engagement empowers Angelenos to take pride in their surroundings and play a hands-on role in protecting our surrounding nature.”

“At Delta, we believe in the power of connection beyond travel through meaningful experiences that bring people together,” said Alicia Tillman, Chief Marketing Officer at Delta Air Lines. “The LA28 Volunteer Program presented by Delta reflects our shared commitment to creating a positive impact in the communities we serve. Volunteering is a longstanding point of pride with Delta employees and is core to our mission—today’s beach cleanup is just the beginning of a journey that will unite Angelenos and inspire service leading up to the Games.”

“From our rivers to our shoreline, Heal the Bay works to strengthen resilience and protect public health for generations to come,” said Tracy Quinn, CEO of Heal the Bay. “As our region prepares to step onto the global stage for the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games, our coastline becomes a symbol of the values with which we choose to lead. Partnering with LA28 and Delta Air Lines to activate volunteers on our beaches is a meaningful starting point—and we are encouraged that LA28 has committed to sustained investment and community action in the years leading up to the LA28 Games.”

Today’s event was held in partnership with Heal the Bay, one of Los Angeles’ most respected environmental organizations, which for nearly four decades has mobilized thousands of volunteers each year to protect the health and cleanliness of local coastlines, rivers and watersheds. Heal the Bay is deeply committed to a more sustainable LA28 Games, most recently serving on LA28's sustainability working group which brought together local community leaders to gather advice and guidance for Games planning, including the development of LA28’s Impact and Sustainability Plan. This inaugural event is also a part of LA28's Resilient by Nature initiative, which drives investment in a more resilient Los Angeles while demonstrating models and best practices that can help drive global action.

The beach cleanup in Venice is the first in a series of community volunteer events LA28 and Delta will host across the region, offering pre-Games opportunities ahead of 2028 and building momentum ahead of applications for Games-time volunteer roles become available in the summer of 2026. LA28 will collaborate with non-profit organizations across the LA region in the years leading up to the Games, offering the LA28 Volunteer Crew opportunities to volunteer in the community in addition to the traditional Games-time roles. These activities will serve as early touchpoints for Angelenos to get involved, strengthen community connections and bring people together through the power of sport and service.
