Para Triathlon

Para Triathlon is the definition of a triple-threat sport, combining swimming, cycling and running into the ultimate test of speed and tactical endurance. The Paralympic Triathlon begins with a 750m swim, transitions to a 20km bike ride and ends with a 5km run. Athletes compete in sport classes based on different degrees of activity limitation. Competitors who use wheelchairs use a handcycle for the cycling portion of the race and a racing wheelchair for the running segment and those with visual impairments use a tandem bicycle with a guide. The athlete who finishes the fastest becomes Paralympic champion in their medal event. Beyond world-class mastery of three unique sports, Para Triathlon also requires quick, precise and efficient transitions, using water exist assistants or handlers when permitted, creating intense, make-or-break moments for athletes and spectators alike. With a unique demand for strategic speed, multiple lead changes and the potential for breathtaking sprint finishes, Para Triathlon provides unpredictable excitement from start to finish.
