Boccia

Boccia, one of only two Paralympic sports with no Olympic counterpart, is a stunning display of strategy and precision with origins dating back to ancient Greece and Egypt. The goal is to throw or roll a ball as close as possible to the jack, a white target ball. Players have six balls to do so and are permitted to use them to knock opponent's balls away and block the jack, making for exciting and tactical battles of strategy. Matches consist of multiple rounds, known as ends. Individual and pair matches consist of four ends with team matches lasting for six. All athletes compete in wheelchairs in one of four classifications relating to impaired trunk and limb mobility, control, balance and coordination. Some athletes throw or kick the ball independently while others use a ramp and a pointer to maneuver the ball.

The athlete on the left is partially visible in the blurred background, with white sneakers resting on the footrest. Several boccia balls, including red, blue, white, and black, are scattered on the court.
