Wrestling
Wrestling is one of the oldest and most physically demanding sports in the world, featured at the first ancient Olympic Games in Greece in 776 BCE and the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. A 1-on-1 combat sport, athletes seek to gain control over their opponents, using techniques like holds, throws and takedowns, all while avoiding being pinned down. To win, athletes must pin their opponents' shoulders to the mat or earn the most points during the match. Matches consist of two 3-minute periods, testing wrestlers’ endurance and mental toughness. Olympic Wrestling includes two styles of competition, Freestyle and Greco-Roman. Freestyle allows for fluid upper and lower body attacks, while Greco-Roman focuses exclusively on upper body contact.
