BMX Freestyle

The birthplace of BMX (Bicycle Moto-Cross) culture, Southern California is amped to welcome BMX Freestyle home to LA for the first time at the Olympic level since its Games debut at Tokyo 2020. Equal parts artistic and athletic, BMX Freestyle is a celebration of creativity and precision, as athletes take a 20-inch bike on an action-packed ride through a course full of ramps, jumps and obstacles. BMX Freestyle athletes have two 60-second runs to wow the judges, earning points in 11 different categories including difficulty, execution, creativity and course use. During qualifying rounds, both runs count, so athletes focus on consistency, whereas in final rounds, only the best run counts, leading to mind-blowing and courageous performances with extensive technical risk and creative flair.
A BMX rider is performing an aerial trick high above the ramps in a skatepark. Wearing a bright yellow shirt, black pants, and a black helmet, the rider is captured mid-air, sitting on the BMX bike with their body bent forward. The skatepark's ramps and surfaces are light blue, gray and white.
