Games-time Volunteering FAQ

Q: If I have volunteered with LA28 before through community volunteering or previously registered my interest in volunteering, do I still need to apply?
A:
Yes. All people who want to volunteer during Games-time, regardless of prior involvement in the LA28 Volunteer Program presented by Delta Air Lines or registration of interest in volunteering, must complete a  Games- time volunteer application through the Games-time volunteer portal. To be considered for a Games-time volunteer role during the Olympic and/or Paralympic Games you must fill out the application which will be available starting July 14, 2026.

Q: Will I be paid to volunteer or have my expenses covered?
A:
Our volunteer program is entirely unpaid, and we cannot cover expenses such as travel or lodging. If you are interested in employment with LA28, you can check our careers page here.

Q: What are the requirements to apply to be a Games-time volunteer?
A:
To be eligible to apply for a Games-time volunteer role, you must meet the following requirements:

Be 18 years or older at the time of your application

Be proficient in English (reading and writing)

Be available for 10 non-consecutive shifts (of approximately eight hours each) during the 2028 Olympic or Paralympic Games volunteer periods

Q: Do I need to be a U.S. citizen or California resident to volunteer at the LA28 Games?
A: No. Games-time volunteers are not required to live in Los Angeles or even within the United States. When applications open on July 14, 2026, you will be asked to provide your current location as part of the application process. This helps us understand where applicants are traveling from, but it is not a factor in eligibility or selection.

Q: Do I need to speak English to be selected as a Games-time volunteer? Is there a level of proficiency that is required?
A: Yes, as English is LA28's official business language, proficiency in English, including speaking, reading and writing, is required. For the safety of all volunteers and attendees of the Games, volunteers must be able to converse and understand all official LA28 communications. This includes, but is not limited to, program updates, training materials and operational instructions. These requirements ensure all volunteers can effectively interact with guests, staff and fellow Volunteer Crew members during the Games.

Q: What is the minimum time commitment for Games-time volunteers?
A: To volunteer at the LA28 Games you must commit to a minimum of 10 non-consecutive shifts of approximately eight hours each during either the Olympic or Paralympic Games volunteer periods. Games-time volunteering covers both the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games and your 10-shift commitment is for one Games or the other. If you are interested in volunteering at both Games, you must be available for 10 shifts during each. Both Games offer similar roles and each have their own exciting energy and vibe. If interested, we encourage you to share availability across both to learn more and share in the magic of each Movement.
