Wheelchair Basketball
Wheelchair Basketball is a high-energy team sport played between two teams of five athletes on a standard-sized indoor Basketball court. The goal is to score points by shooting a ball through a hoop suspended 10 feet off the ground. The winning team is determined by who has the most points at the end of four 10-minute quarters. Shots inside the arc are worth two points and shots outside are worth three. Each player is assigned classification points from 1.0 to 4.5 depending on their functional ability, and the cumulative classification points for all five players on the court cannot exceed 14.0. Characterized by the mesmerizing flow of teammates working together to move the ball through passing and bouncing the ball, which must occur after a maximum of two pushes of the wheel, Wheelchair Basketball is a celebration of speed, agility and hand-eye coordination. A mainstay of the Paralympics since the first Games in 1960, Wheelchair Basketball is sure to captivate fans at LA28 with its electric gameplay and vibrant spirit.
