Shooting Para Sport

Included in every Paralympic Games since 1976, Shooting Para Sport is a test of precision and focus that sees athletes compete in men's, women's and mixed gender events using a rifle or pistol to hit stationary targets from different positions. Shooting Para Sport includes Rifle and Pistol events which take place in an indoor shooting range where athletes take aim at a target 10m, 25m and 50m away depending on the event. Using an allotted number of shots in the allotted time, the goal is to get as close to the center of the target as possible. In Pistol events there is one sport classification where all athletes shoot using one arm, unsupported. In Rifle, there are two sport classifications—one where athletes hold the rifle with their upper limbs, unsupported, and another where athletes use a spring to assist in supporting the weight of their rifle.

The Shooting Para Sport event will take place in a purpose-built, temporary indoor range at the Convention Center in Long Beach, CA.

A Paralympic athlete competes in a shooting event at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. The athlete is seated in a wheelchair, wearing a blue, white, and yellow shooting jacket and a navy cap. They are aiming an air rifle at the target in the distance. The shooting range has designated lanes marked with numbers, and the athlete is in lane 47. Electronic scoring monitors are positioned on tables beside each lane. The event's logo, featuring a stylized figure in a wheelchair aiming a rifle, and the Paralympic Agitos are visible on the lane markers.
