Para Athletics

Para Athletics is one of the oldest sports in the Paralympic movement, dating back to the first Games in 1960. Since its inception, it has been an exciting test of athletes’ speed, strength, agility and endurance, drawing in crowds with electric displays of explosive power and mental fortitude. Athletes compete in a diverse array of running, jumping and throwing events–individually and as teams–with performances determined by time, distance or height. Events are determined by classifications with competitions for athletes with a wide range of impairments, including physical, visual and intellectual. Depending on their event and classification, some athletes compete in wheelchairs, with prosthetics and sighted guides, along with other equipment and assistive devices. Para Athletics is the largest sport in the Paralympic program with 164 events and at LA28 will see Frame Running at the Paralympic level for the first time.

The Paralympic Marathon course will start at the Venice Beach Boardwalk.
