Mountain Bike

Olympic Mountain Bike challenges cyclists on a cross-country course featuring a mix of climbs, descents and different terrains. Races are 3.5-6km in length, and throughout multiple laps, athletes must make split-second decisions on rocky and undulating terrain all while hurtling at immense speeds on specialty bikes. Spectators line up along the course to watch the fast-paced action up close, from the start to the winner crossing the finish line. This event displays endurance, adaptability and mental resiliency, as athletes are removed from the race if their time is 80% slower than the leader's first lap and the number of laps is undecided until the day before competition. First introduced to the Olympics at Atlanta 1996, LA is proud to welcome Mountain Bike back to its home state and second U.S. Games.
Two cyclists navigate a rocky terrain on mountain bikes during a competitive race. The cyclist in the foreground, wearing a blue and white uniform with stripes on the sleeves, is maneuvering over large boulders, while the cyclist behind them, dressed in a red and black outfit, follows closely. Pink markers are placed on the ground to indicate the race course, and lush greenery surrounds the rocky path. The focus is on the trail and their bikes.
