Rowing Coastal Beach Sprints

Combining sand and surf, Rowing Coastal Beach Sprints is making its Olympic debut at LA28. The exciting sport features a run, then a row, then another run, to the same start and finish line on the beach. Athletes start with a sprint across the sand to open-hulled boats where they then row 250m out to a turn, navigating through waves and surf. Upon return to the beach, athletes jump out of the boat and run to cross the finish line first. This new sport demands powerful strokes, agility, a deep understanding of the open water’s behavior and fast legs–packing an exciting punch for fans in 2028.
